Graphics Simulation with 500 AI driven actors (2021)

 

As part of the Graphics module, I had to create a scene that included 500 actor in Unreal Engine that were all driven by AI. 
I decided to make a rat maze with cheese in the middle on a trapdoor that they were meant to search for. For this I created a Rat model in blender which I then rigged and animated. The AI for the rats used an EQS system along with a behaviour tree to encourage them to search until they spotted the cheese at the centre of the maze. To better allow them to navigate the maze, the query system made sure to search areas that weren't next to walls, were the furthest away within a range, and weren't inaccessible. They also used an avoidance system to better allow them to get out each other's way.
